Ivo, Burl and I went with Karin to Nanto to meet Baby Joe Cash Kuhel. He is beautiful! And tall. And makes Baby Burl look like a giant! He was born April 26th so he's just shy of 2 weeks old.
Ivo got to be a farm boy for a little while. He played on the tractor/truck with Karin and played on a tire swing.
We all ate a yummy lunch that Emily's mom made. I tried everything she made - which is unusual for me - but since becoming a born-again-carnivore, I'm excited to see how many animals and how many parts of these animals I can eat at each meal. Plus, it was all home-cooked, specially to help Emily's body recover after pregnancy and giving birth. There was a fresh peanut-pig soup to increase milk supply, the famous chicken-wine-ginger soup, and a ginger-clam soup, plus 3 different steamed vegetables. The whole idea is to help Emily restore the yin-yang balance. She has to eat warming stuff - (she needs more yang after the ultimate yin thing of pregnancy, I guess) nothing cold, no a/c or direct fan, no hair washing and before she showers her mom gives her a pre-wash with hot water steeped with ginger. Also, Emily has no tv, computer and little to read. She's just supposed to stay in bed - at least indoors - for this first month. Emily and Joe have 2 more weeks to zuo yue zi. When Joe is one month, they'll move down to Tainan with Papa John (and air conditioning!).
Emily looks beautiful and is feeling pretty good - Joe Cash is perfect.
