Burl's Birthday

Today is Burl’s birthday!!! This time last year and Burl's birth story.

It’s also an official day of observance in Taiwan called “er er ba” (228). We all had the day off and got to spend it celebrating little B’s 1st Bday.

Ivo and Burl played at Carre4’s play space for 2 hours! They both had a wonderful time!

We ate lunch at the Ponderosa – the buffet was a pretty reasonable choice for everyone cuz all manner of starches are represented. The food was... not... awesome. Burl slept during lunch so we brought him a waffle and a couple French fries to go.

We did a little grocery shopping afterwards and Ivo fell asleep.

Then we ran errands and returned home at around 4:30.

Mary and Hei Ji came over with presents for Burl!!! Nice visit. Cool pants and shirt and all kinds of vehicles and a big maraca – which is Burl’s favorite!

Then we made some dinner – leftover rice with peas, chicken and cheese. And we made Burl’s cake.

Whew!

Burl loved when we sang him Happy Birthday - he grinned and grinned. We gave him one present - a fisher price dinosaur set -which he seems to like. Ivo loves it and has decided that the big dino is "Donald" (?) and the small one is Donald's "son." And, guess what? Donald is Ivo's friend, so that works out great.

What a wonderful day! What a wonderful birthday boy! What a wonderful big brother! Up until today, when we spoke of Burl's upcoming bday, Ivo would say "It gonna be my birthday too!" Ivo didn't get to openany presents but he got a MR INCREDIBLE longsleeved t-shirt this morning. He was really patient and happy and cooperative. He still is being so sweet. We're watching Winnie the Pooh, which he loves. Burl's sleeping.

Ivo Wants These

Ivo saw a boy in wellies on tellytubbies. Ivo has long loved boots and the kid's wellies really appealed to him. We looked online and, can you believe it... SPIDER BOOTS!

Ivo Overheard:

• "You gotta go and buy dem a me. So I can wear dem in da wain. And I want a spider umbrella."




• “I was THINKin’…” (on and on til he comes up with something – or immediately into what he wants; “I was thinkin’ a watching a MOvie.”)




• "You don’t have a penis? You just have a bum bum?"



• ...or not? ie; "You brush my teeth or not? I gonna count a 5…" This is an excellent example of Ivo adopting what he hears me say.

Burl Dien To/Nods Xie Xie

Burl has been nodding his head this past week. Who knew nodding took so much concentration? He's been working hard. Burl nods for "yes" and also for "xie xie" - the old dien to.

Burl waves bye-bye and hi/hello. Burl says "hi."

Burl's teething... power-teething! I see 4 more top teeth buds gearing up... Haven't had a chance to look at the bottom gums.

Burl loves -and has loved for most of his life - "pat-a-cake" and "soooo big!" He's doing "sooo big in the pic. When Burl's been sad - since birth - he is soothed, quited and calmed by "You are my Sunshine." So was Ivo.



















I've been trying to find blogposts of Ivo around 1-year old but it doesn't seem like there are any... I 'm both shocked and sad. I know the dien to/xie xie combo was among his first gestures too.
