Ivo the Story Teller

And not story-telling as a euphemism for lying, either!

Dobba Dobba is most likely a character from a computer game, but I don't know for sure. I've never seen him - though Ivo has described him so well, I feel like I know him! So here's some stuff about Ivo's imaginary friend, Dobba Dobba...

  • He's 5 years old.
  • He has a 2-year-old baby-sitter. (possibly baby-sister)
  • He look like me.
  • He is an Indian.
  • He likes me.
  • He lives at Grammie Gail's house.
  • He likes... a litany of the same things Ivo likes!
  • He likes making cookies.
  • He have a spiderman shirt, like me. He have spiderman pants too... I don't have spiderman pants.
  • He likes reading books by himself.

Ivo writing.

Plus a little Ivo Overheard:

  • "Dat mines!"

  • In mock exasperated mini-road rage, "What are your pwoblems?!" I LOVE this cuz, really, isn't it much more likely that someone driving an SUV the wrong way down Gong Yi has more than 1 problem?
  • "I'm a wobot. I can change into a car or a soldier and a scooter."
  • "The dr said I don't have to go to school today." (Not true.)
  • (After swallowing some mystery morsel, in response to being asked what it was) "It was bread. I like bread." I like bread too. When there's no bread, I wonder what I can eat... "Chocolate?"

Burl Still Illin'

Whaa! Tropical rainy day. Torrential rain with breaks all day.

Karin, Ivo, Burl and I went for a walk during a break around ten am. It was supposed to be a quick and close little trip but we ended up getting stranded a couple of times on our return.

Pretty fun anyway. Burl loves going out so much. He weeps when we don't let him go in the yard. I thought a little walk would help dispel some of his cranky - and it did. But the rest of the afternoon, he slept, whined and nursed. He had a 39C fever which I gave him a diclofenac suppository. He had his first one last night.

Anyway, everything is fine. Both guys are sleeping. Burl has a low fever of 37.9 - I hope it stays low. I hope tomorrow he's feeling 100%.

These pics are from 19 May - the boys in their new swimsuits. Ivo wore his for hours andpretended he was a turtle the whole time "look at my shell." Burl was less mobile but thrilled to be dressed like Ivo:)

Here is a link to a video of Ivo from March 2006 approximately the same age as Burl is now. I'm trying to embed it too. This video is at Bliptv where there are many vids of an adorable younger Ivo...

Burl Home Sick

Again!

Poor Little B has tonsilitis. The last time he had it was only April 9th. Boo hoo. This time seems worse. He's had a fever for 2 days and hasn't eaten or drunk anything (other than booby) for a bit longer.

His throat hurts so much he won't swallow his medicine. He's not sleeping well either. Boo hoo.

Burl saw the dr yesterday and today.

Happily Ivo is ok:) and he is talking up a storm. A bit of Ivo Overheard:

  • "When I grow up/bigger, I... drive a cement truck, walk in the woods and see a alien, I will be just like you..."

  • "I never been/seen/do dat befoo-re." Very excitedly and often erroneously!
  • "That was awesome! That kick butt!"
  • "Dat the best _____ I ever seen!"

Today Ivo had his first ever ride on the scooter floor-plate with Ryan - he LOVED it. They came to meet us at the dr, cuz Ryan had to go to work, so he dropped Ivo off. Whaa!!!! Was he ever excited! He was wearing the orange southpark helmet and his whole face was a SMILE!

Brothers

Same same. At play and asleep:)

Also of note:
  • Word Maven Patricia T. O'Conner on the Leonard Lopate show discussing differences b/w British and US English. Oh how I wish they'd include a discussion of Canadian English!Interestingly, she posits that much of what is often considered American varients actually date back to before 1776 - and are actually British innovations. For example, dropping the hard r-sound, the Francophilic "-re" ending - on words like theatre and centre, and the final "-t" instead of "-ed" - on words like spoilt and learnt. LISTEN TO THE INTERVIEW HERE.
  • Taiwan makes it onto Gawker! The comments are funny.

Ivo Writes!

Over the past couple months, Ivo has been sooo interested in drawing- not just coloring. His early stuff was colorful, sprawling, and abstract. He drew things like black holes, rivers and oceans. Slowly these gave way to balloons, worms and roads.

Over the past 2 weeks, he has started to write. He scribbles and narrates letters to Grammie Gail. And then, all by himself - all of a sudden, he started writing real recognizable "I"'s! And now he can write his name I-O-V. Neato! Self-taught. We bought him this book yesterday - it's a dry-erase letter tracing book. In addition to his name, Ivo says this is drawing of "...a worm - he have legs like a centipede - but he a worm. In a big oval."

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

From around 19 May, several "I"'s and his letter to Grammie Gail.

Pics from Past Weekend

Not cuz nothing's going on... just cuz:) We're pretty. Tired.

Kevin & Kaia visited on Sunday. It's hard to believe how breathtakingly beautiful Kaia is - Oops, I mean, not that I don't use the exact same words to describe Kevin. Well, maybe "pretty" but beautiful, I don't know. But what is beautiful, amazing and super cool is that Kevin quit smoking - and it's sticking! Yay Kevin! Also, Kevin is refusing to add me as a friend on facebk... trouble. Kevin traced the kids' feet - they loved it!

On Saturday, Ivo, Burl and I went to the science museum with Joanne and Ethan.

Saturday night, the MacLeods came in and we all went to dinner at Bollywood where we had the great good fortune of meeting Karin & Mary.

Also, very importantly, Burl got a cape too...:)

A little teeny tiny Ivo Overheard:

  • When he's happy about or approves of a plan Ivo says, "Dat sound a good idea." He says it really generously, like he wants you to know how valuable you are to the team.

  • When Ivo leaves the area, he often announces, "You need anything, you just shout!"

Ivo - It's All About Electricity

When Ivo realized that what the fuss was about and reached for his hair he said, "I taller!"

In other news, Ivo has been writing a lot recently. He makes scribbles that look like an EEG printout of a relatively calm brain. He usually narrates this with a "Dear Grammie Gail" or something about a new friend named "Dobba Dobba" -more on him soon.
Ivo can also write "I" for Ivo.

Burl blow kiss. If not embedding (yea, right!!!) click here.

Burl napped yesterday and was psyched to drive around running errands.

Ivo didn't, and was honestly surprised to hear about all the places we/he went while he was conked out.
